Desmos on Digital SAT Math

The graphing calculator is built into Bluebook. Using it on every item is how you run out of time. Never using it is how you miss a two-intersection question you could have clicked.

Use it

Two-variable linear systems (graph, click). A line vs a parabola or circle (count intersections). Circle equations after you type them. A table you would otherwise regress by hand. Anything where the question is 'how many solutions' and the algebra is a mess.

Do not use it

One-variable linear isolate. A percent. A probability table. An inequality where you just need to flip a sign. If the item is 20 seconds of algebra, Desmos is a 40-second detour.

The actual skill

Typing the equation the way it is written — not rewriting it into y = first unless you must. Reading the requested quantity off the graph (intercept vs intersection vs a slider on k). Drilled flags Desmos-friendly skills (H.C., H.D., P.B., P.C., Q.D., S.D.) and has a Desmos Dojo drill plus an in-player calculator.

Questions

Is Desmos allowed on every SAT Math item?
The Digital SAT Math section is calculator-allowed throughout. That is not the same as 'Desmos is the right tool on every item.'
Can I rely on Desmos for 800?
You can rely on it for the items it owns. You cannot Desmos your way around Module 1 leaks or SPR grid rules. It is a tool, not a path.
