Right triangles and trigonometry
Right triangles and trig on the Digital SAT is SOHCAHTOA plus special rights. The miss is usually the wrong pairing — adjacent labeled as opposite — not the calculator.
What Bluebook is testing
S.C. is Pythagorean theorem, special right triangles (45-45-90, 30-60-90), and right-triangle trig including inverse trig for an angle.
How it shows up
A right triangle in a diagram, sometimes embedded in a 3-D solid or a coordinate plane. Hard items give you two sides and ask for a trig value, not a length.
A method that survives Module 2
Circle the angle. Label O, A, H from that angle only. Special rights: write the ratio template next to the triangle before you plug numbers. If you only need sin/cos/tan, you may not need the third side.
Traps that look like knowledge
- Opposite / adjacent swapped for the angle they named
- 30-60-90 ratios assigned to the wrong sides
- Pythagorean leftover as a side they did not ask for
- sin⁻¹ of a ratio when they asked for the ratio itself
