How it shows up
Dot plots, lists, and 'which statement must be true.' Hard items never ask you to compute a mean of five numbers. They ask what happens to the median if 80 is replaced by 8.
A method that survives Module 2
Ask which measure is being named. Then ask whether the change hits that measure. For median, sort. For mean, think total = mean × n. If they say 'must be true,' one counterexample kills a choice.
